News from Estonia

The Estonian esp@cenet database contains patent applications, granted patents and utility models dating from 1994, when the Patents Act of the Republic of Estonia entered into force and the granting of patents started again following the end of the Soviet period.

The Estonian Patent Office has its own IP databases, which are available to the public free of charge on its website as follows:

• Estonian patent applications and patents;
• European patents validated in Estonia;
• utility models;
• trade marks registered in Estonia;
• industrial designs;
• geographical indications.

The database of Estonian patents and patent applications provides links to A and B documents in esp@cenet Worldwide.

The Estonian Patent Office also publishes the following official gazettes (also available electronically in pdf format) on its website:

• The Estonian Trademark Gazette - published monthly since September 1993;
• The Estonian Utility Model Gazette - published quarterly since October 1994 ;
• The Estonian Patent Gazette - published bimonthly since December 1995;
• The Estonian Industrial Design Gazette - published quarterly since August 1998.

The Estonian Patent Office arranges training courses for SMEs, which include an introduction to esp@cenet, and provides consultations free of charge. Training is organised by the SME Support Division, which was set up for this purpose and has its own section on the Estonian version of the Estonian Patent Office website.
